This was a brand new Virtual Reality (VR) experience created by 59 Productions and started a new wave of successful work in that area for the company. Inspired by American novelist Paul Auster’s first work, The New York Trilogy, it opened at HOME, Manchester in February 2017 and transferred to the Lyric, Hammersmith in London, alongside 59's stage production of City of Glass.
This thrilling experience combined hand-drawn animation and cutting edge VR technology to distort the line between reality and fiction, placing audiences at the centre of a strange and haunting story. Experienced with an Oculus Rift VR headset, in a specially-installed VR booth, the piece received official selection to a range of international film festivals, including the Venice Film Festival Bridge. It won the Expanded Animation Award at the British Animation Awards 2018.
